Our Story

Snelling is a multidisciplinary studio based in Aotearoa New Zealand, working across lighting, furniture, sculpture, and material-led object collections. Established in 2007 as a collaboration between father and daughter Douglas and Bec Snelling, the practice is now led by Rebecca Snelling, who continues to honour her father’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship, material integrity, and thoughtful making.

Shaped by Snelling’s formal training in fine art and over two decades of design practice, the studio’s work occupies the space between sculptural form and functional object. Collections are grounded in sustained material research and developed through both traditional craft methodologies and advanced manufacturing processes, bringing together inherited knowledge, conceptual clarity, and refined execution. The studio holds international representation, with projects across Australasia, Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.

Designed and produced within the studio alongside a specialised team of makers and fabricators, Snelling’s works are intended to endure. The practice remains deeply committed to authenticity in process and production, valuing longevity, permanence, and quality over trend. Through years of continual refinement, the studio has evolved through making itself, learning through doing and remaining committed to the pursuit of better.
